Next Steps in Weaving (Advanced Beginner) Feb 28, Mar 1 + 2
Friday, February 28-Sunday March 2nd
10am-2pm
Designed to support new weavers, this course guides students through a project of their choosing. Beginning by looking at samples for inspiration, we’ll then take a closer look at drafting, including interventions to customize an existing draft as well as drafting your own cloth. The design choices that impact yarn selection, desired size and feel, and various options for finishing will be covered.
Students will receive guidance as needed to calculate and wind their warp and dress the loom. This course spans three 4-hour sessions. Additional open work time in the studio is available at an hourly rate. Material can be purchased from the studio, or students can choose to source their own material with assistance from the instructor.
Please arrive well rested and ready to focus. Coffee, tea, and water will be available throughout the session.
Please note that this workshop utilizes a floor loom and equipment which requires simultaneous use of the upper and lower body. Dressing the loom involves sitting for an extended period with concentrated eye and hand work. Those will limited lower body mobility can request use of a table loom.
Building access: The Grand on River building has a zero step entrance and single stall restroom with one step down. We are located at the Warren bus stop. Free street parking is available across the street on 17th.
