Color for Life: Intro to Fiber Reactive Dyes (June 22, 1-4pm)
Color for Life: Intro to Fiber Reactive Dyes (June 22, 1-4pm)
Sunday, June 22
1-4pm
Learn to transform fabric with long-lasting, vibrant color using fiber reactive Procion dyes. Fiber reactive dyes create a chemical bond with the fabric, yielding incredibly rich color that holds up through washing, sunlight, and wear. This 3 hour course will cover preparation, safety, and a variety of application methods including immersion, low-water immersion, and clamp-resist.
Students will leave with several 10"x10" dyed fabric samples and the knowledge to repeat the process at home. Additional fabric, bandanas, and tote bags will be available to purchase and dye during the course. Students can also bring up to 1 yard of their own cellulose fabric to dye. Cellulose includes cotton, rayon, linen, jute, hemp, and any plant-based fiber. These amazing dyes can also be used for wood, reed, and silk.
One full scholarship is available for this course on a first come, first served basis. Those who were born/raised in Detroit, BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQ or anyone who can't afford the class are encouraged to use this fund. Please email spoolanddyeworks@gmail.com to request the scholarship spot.
